Why is Naruto So Popular?

Most anime and manga that come out are not as popular as some of them. There will always be examples that have risen above the rest, like the DragonBall series, which are popular throughout the world. The world is full of great anime and manga, and today, we will be looking at Naruto.

Naruto is known to many as an anime, and whether you consider the anime or the manga, both are popular and for a couple of good reasons.

Characters and Character Development

Out of all things that a story needs to get right, the characters are among the first things that should be unquestionable. The characters in Naruto are likable and even when they are antagonistic, you can believe their reasons and can find a connection. Bad antagonists are just those that are simply evil without any motivation or reasons.

From the main characters to the side characters, Naruto shows that when you put great effort into characters, it makes a good anime, great.

A Simple Plot

You don’t need an overly complex detective plot with three thousand layers and betrayals at every point, family and love life drama, friendships gained and lost to make a good story. People are lost when a story is told in a non-linear fashion, let alone if the story has twists and turns that boggle the mind.

Naruto has a relatively simple plot that sticks to its core. Sometimes, the execution is not as great, but that doesn’t take away from the show. No story is a perfect one start to finish.

Fight Scenes

While some anime take fight scenes and make them last ten episodes, particularly when the scenes could have been complete in one episode, khm, DragonBall, Naruto does a great job of making fight scenes interesting and ingenious.

It is not about massive power levels and going even further beyond, but about tactics and applying one’s fighting style and knowledge, as well as improvisation, much like a real battle would ensue, except with a bit of magic.

The System is Great

Magic and magical systems need to be simple and with limitations. Magic systems cannot be overly complex and have few limits. If the systems are like that, then any character can go beyond the limit, leading to ridiculous fights where characters can destroy planets. Being simple, each character has a limitation that makes them accessible and realistic, to an extent.

The Artwork

Naruto combines something old and something new, making a contrast between the world the characters live in and the technology and gadgets they use. You don’t expect to find technology in a world that has a rather primitive feel about it.
