An Animated ‘Mortal Kombat’ Movie is Being Developed
All fans of Mortal Kombat were thrilled to hear that an animated Mortal Kombat movie is in the works. Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge will come out somewhere in the first half of 2020 and fans cannot wait. Until then, we can review everything we know so far about the movie and talk about our predictions.
The history of Mortal Kombat
There is no surprise that Mortal Kombat is getting its animated movie – after all, the video game is one of the most popular ones in the world. As soon as it first debuted in 1992, it became a fan favorite because of its raw violence, mythology, and some well-structured characters such as Scorpion, Johnny Cage, and Sub-Zero. Since then the game has only been getting more popular and fans are now expecting its 11th installment in April 2020. The game even got its movie adaptation soon after its debut and even a web series later; however, these didn’t live up to the popularity of the game. This animated movie just might if we are judging by some of the names of the people involved in the movie.
Who is involved?
The movie is directed by Ethan Spaulding, who also directed Batman: Assault on Arkham, as well as Justice League: Throne of Atlantis. Ethan Spaulding is working with the script written by Jeremy Adams who has some very popular TV shows on his resume, including Supernatural. The main cast consists of Joel McHale as Johnny Cage and Jennifer Carpenter as Sonya Blade. The rest of the cast is very star-studded as well with names such as Jordan Rodrigues, Patrick Seitz, Steve Blum, and Ike Amadi among them. The cast seems promising, and the reveal of the director gave all fans the hope that this will be an amazing animated movie.
Has this been done before?
Mortal Kombat did have one animated movie in the past, but it didn’t come very far. Defenders Of The Realm was supposed to be a family-friendly movie, even though it was based on one of the most violent and bloody games out there. This, of course, meant that the movie wasn’t very true to the story and therefore, fans of the Mortal Kombat game weren’t interested.
What can we expect from this one?
The game, with all of its fighting and brutality, is great for the format of animated movies. If it stays true to the film this time, we should expect amazing things from this movie. Right now, there is really no reason to think that this movie will be anything less than amazing.
