The not so glorious return of the Lion King

The Lion King has always been one of the most famous animated movies in the history of Disney. The first time it came out, it touched many peoples’ hearts and its unique story turned so many people into fans of Disney movies. The development of the first movie, which was released in 1994, started in 1988 and the producers paid a lot of attention to so many details, probably making one of the best animated movies of all time.

The story of Lion King

The story of The Lion King is about a lion cub called Simba whose father, Mufasa, is the king of the Pride Lands. Mufasa’s brother, Scar, has always been jealous of his brother so he decides to murder him. After Mufasa’s death, Simba keeps blaming himself for the death of his father, but thanks to growing up with Timon and Pumba, he realizes that he wants to come back to the Pride Lands and take over the throne that rightfully belongs to him.

Soulless remake?

In 2019, Disney released a remake of The Lion King. The remake was confirmed in September 2016 with a promise to be as amazing as the first one. However, a month after the release, many people, fans of the original movie, said that the graphics and animations had been done in an amazing way, but they were disappointed because the remake didn’t stir them as much as the original movie, contrary to all expectations. How did this happen?

A shiny package

Well, most people who had been fans of The Lion King people for many years had already grown up by the time of the release of the remake and they were most likely expecting something new from the new version. Apart from the graphics and animations, they probably wanted to see something that would touch their hearts to the point of making them cry, just like the original movie. There is no doubt that the animations and the graphics are amazing and probably some of the best ones out there, but that is simply not enough to make the remake better than its predecessor. What’s more, even the children who watched the remake said that they liked the animations and the graphics of the original movie better because they felt so real.

A remake is a just a remake

Even though this movie is made for kids, many people still criticize it because nothing new was added to the story. However, we should keep in mind that a remake is still a remake and the whole point is to make it look better than the predecessor while keeping the original story. From that perspective, the remake was done in an excellent way. We have to admit that the original movie is so special because it was something totally new when it appeared. The Lion King will always have its place in our hearts despite the disappointment with which numerous people were left after watching the remake.
